When iPad was launched, there was a cry among the technical community of the Apple Tablet lacking one important feature – inability to print documents. Well Apple has finally plugged that hole by announcing AirPrint which brings wireless printing capability for the iPad.
Yes, yes AirPrint will work on your iPhone and iPod Touch as well. The Cupertinos have been kind enough to unveil what the printing technology is all about by unleashing a beta version of it for its Developer portal members.
Here is what Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing had to say about the upcoming printing architecture:
AirPrint is Apple’s powerful new printing architecture that matches the simplicity of iOS—no set up, no configuration, no printer drivers and no software to download. iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users can simply tap to print their documents or photos wirelessly to an HP ePrint printer or to a printer shared on a Mac or PC.
AirPrint will support a diverse range of printers which will support everything from basic level inkjet printers to laser printers. HP’s existing and upcoming ePrint enabled printers will be the first to support the wireless printing feature.
